Vitality points and status explained
26 August 2026

Your Vitality status is not a badge. On a plan with Optimiser it can affect your premium, so check Vitality's own status table for your plan.
What are Vitality points?
Vitality points are the scoring system behind a Vitality plan. You earn them for tracked activity and for health checks. The total you build sets your Vitality status.
Most people assume the points only buy coffee and cinema tickets. On a plan with Vitality Optimiser they do something more useful. They decide what happens to your premium.
That is the part worth understanding before you pick a plan, because your status can change what you pay. Check Vitality's own documents for the exact adjustment on your plan.
How you earn Vitality points
There are two routes, and they are not equal. One is slow and capped. The other is quick and one off.
Tracked exercise is the slow route. Vitality caps activity points at 8 a day and 40 a week. Over a one-year plan that is up to 2,080 points from exercise.
Health checks are the quick route. They are worth hundreds of points each and you can do them in an afternoon.
Vitality's own worked example for reaching Silver looks like this. The route differs depending on whether you smoke.
| Activity | Smoker | Non-smoker |
|---|---|---|
| Complete the Health Profile in the Vitality app | 100 | 100 |
| Vitality Healthcheck | 240 | 240 |
| Pass the Healthcheck non-smokers test | not available | 200 |
| Healthy cholesterol result | not available | 60 |
| Healthy BMI result | not available | 60 |
| Non-smoker declaration | not available | 100 |
| Exercise with a linked tracker | not available | 40 |
| Healthy blood glucose result | 60 | not available |
| Healthy blood pressure result | 60 | not available |
| Dental checkup | 100 | not available |
| Exercise with a linked tracker for 6 weeks | 240 | not available |
| Total to reach Silver | 800 | 800 |
A Weight Watchers workshop adds 15 points a week, up to 780 in a one-year plan. Parkrun and sessions at selected Virgin Active, Nuffield Health and PureGym gyms also count on qualifying plans.
Vitality status levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum
Everyone starts on Bronze. Points move you up through Silver and Gold to Platinum.
| Status | How you reach it | Effect on an Optimiser premium |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze | Where everyone starts | plus 2.5% on premiums |
| Silver | 800 points | plus 1.5% on premiums |
| Gold | Set by your plan | plus 0.5% on premiums |
| Platinum | Set by your plan | 0% on premiums |
Vitality publishes the 800 point figure for Silver. The Gold and Platinum thresholds depend on your plan and are published by Vitality and are published by Vitality, so use Vitality's own points calculator or your plan documents rather than a number from a blog.
How Vitality status affects your premium
This is the part that gets skipped. On a plan with Vitality Optimiser your status feeds straight into your premium.
The size of the adjustment at each status depends on your plan, so check Vitality's own documents.
So the question to ask before you buy is honest and simple. Will you actually use the tracker and do the health checks?
If the answer is no, a plan built around rewards you will not collect is the wrong plan. A straightforward level term policy from another insurer may cost you less.
How to move up from Bronze
Do the checks before you worry about the step count.
The Health Profile in the app is 100 points and takes minutes. A Vitality Healthcheck is 240 points, and Vitality says the Healthcheck can be worth up to 680 in total.
Exercise is capped at 40 points a week. Walking alone will move you, but slowly. The checks move you in a single sitting.
Link a tracker on day one either way. Points only count from the day the device is connected to your account.
Frequently asked questions
How many Vitality points do I need for Silver status?
Vitality sets Silver at 800 points. Its own worked example reaches that in about a month. The route differs for smokers and non-smokers, but both add up to 800.
How many Vitality points can I earn per week?
Activity points are capped at 8 a day and 40 a week. Vitality caps them so that rest days do not cost you progress. Over a one-year plan that is up to 2,080 points from exercise alone.
Does my Vitality status change what I pay?
On a plan with Vitality Optimiser, yes. The size of the adjustment at each status depends on your plan, so check Vitality's own documents.
What is the fastest way to move off Bronze?
The health checks, not the step count. Completing the Health Profile is 100 points and a Vitality Healthcheck is 240. Exercise is capped at 40 a week, so the one off checks move you far quicker than walking does.
Do Vitality points reset?
Your points build across your plan year and set your status for the following year. Check your own plan documents, because the plan year and the review date drive when your status is locked in.
Which activities earn Vitality points?
Tracked steps and workouts, a Vitality Healthcheck, a Weight Watchers workshop, parkrun, and sessions at selected Virgin Active, Nuffield Health or PureGym gyms on qualifying plans.
