Aviva Global Treatment explained
Aviva Global Treatment is an optional extra on some Aviva protection plans. If you or your child needs treatment for one of six serious conditions, it pays for that treatment abroad and arranges the travel.
In short
Global Treatment pays for treatment at a hospital abroad for six serious conditions. Aviva’s partner Further finds the options, books the hospital, travel and hotel, and pays a daily allowance. It works alongside NHS care, not instead of it.
What Aviva Global Treatment is
After a serious diagnosis, the best specialist for your condition may not be in the UK. Global Treatment gives you that option.
Aviva runs it with Further, a specialist medical support provider. Further handles the organising, so you can focus on getting well.
It can only be chosen when your plan starts, for an additional fee. It renews every three years, when the fee may change.

The six conditions covered
Global Treatment covers six conditions: cancer treatment, coronary artery bypass surgery, heart valve replacement or repair, neurosurgery, live-donor organ transplants and bone marrow transplants.
Aviva’s Key Features Document has the full definitions, limits and exclusions for each one.
How much Aviva will pay
Aviva will pay up to £1 million a year for each person covered, and up to £2 million over the life of the plan.
While you are treated abroad, the person travelling with you gets £100 a day towards food, drink and transport, for up to 60 days per claim.
When you come home, if the NHS will not pay for your ongoing medicine, Aviva covers it up to £50,000 over the plan. That applies after a hospital stay abroad of three nights or more.
You can add Global Treatment up to age 74, and it lasts until age 84. It is an additional fee on top of your premium, reviewed every three years.
The small print
- You can only add it when the plan starts. You cannot add it later.
- If you cancel it, you can do so from 6 months after the start date. You cannot add it back.
- You cannot have it on two Aviva plans at once.
- You must live in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man or Gibraltar.
- The additional fee can change every three years when the cover renews.
