Vitality Life Insurance Explained | How the Programme Works & What You Get
Share
Vitality Life Insurance rewards you for looking after your health — with lower premiums, everyday perks, and benefits you can actually use from day one.
What is Vitality?
Vitality is a UK insurance provider that does things differently. Rather than simply paying out when things go wrong, Vitality actively encourages you to live a healthier life — and rewards you for doing so.
Their products include Life Insurance, Income Protection, and Critical Illness Cover. What sets them apart is the Vitality Programme: a built-in rewards and incentives scheme that links your health and activity to your premiums and benefits. The healthier you live, the more you get back.
It's a model built on the idea that insurance should do more than just protect you — it should actively help you live longer and better.
How the Vitality Programme works
Once you have a Vitality plan, you earn points through everyday healthy activities — things like walking, exercising, or completing a health check. Those points determine your Vitality Status, which in turn affects your rewards and your premium.
You don't need to be a fitness fanatic. Most members earn the majority of their points just by walking.
Your Vitality Status
Everyone starts at Bronze. The more active you are throughout the year, the higher your status — and the better your rewards and premium savings.
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Bronze | Your starting point — base rewards included |
| Silver | More active — better rewards and lower premium |
| Gold | Consistently active — greater savings and discounts |
| Platinum | Most active — maximum rewards and lowest premium |
What rewards can you get?
Higher status unlocks better perks from top brands — things you'll actually use:
- Apple Watch — earn one through your activity
- Gym membership discounts
- Cinema tickets
- Free coffee for hitting your weekly activity goal
- Healthy meal rewards
- Discounts across health, fitness and lifestyle brands
The Vitality Member Zone
Once you have a Vitality plan in place, everything is managed through the Vitality Member Zone — Vitality's online portal and app. This is where you:
- Track your activity and Vitality Points
- Check your current Vitality Status
- Access and redeem your rewards and discounts
- Link your activity tracker or wearable device
- Manage your plan and personal details
It's available on desktop and via the Vitality app on iOS and Android — so your rewards and progress are always at your fingertips.
What is Vitality Optimiser?
Optimiser is an optional add-on to a Vitality Life Insurance or Income Protection policy. It unlocks an upfront discount on your premium from day one — and the more you engage with the programme, the more you could save.
If life gets busy and you don't engage as much, any premium increase is capped at just 2.5% for that year — so you always know where you stand.
1. Get an upfront discount on your premium
2. Stay active to maintain or improve your savings
3. If life gets in the way, increases are capped at 2.5%
Is Vitality Life Insurance right for you?
This is general information to help you understand the product — not a recommendation. Suitability depends on your individual circumstances.
| Could suit you if you… | Worth considering if you… |
|---|---|
| Want to get healthier and stay motivated | Are unlikely to engage with a health programme |
| Like the idea of paying less the healthier you are | Need a fixed, predictable premium |
| Want real perks and rewards alongside your cover | May find it hard to engage due to health or lifestyle |
